Ft McAllister State Park June 28 to July 4th

This park is the perfect place for a Civil War enthusiast to visit. Ft McAllister was built by Confederate Army to protect the Ogeechee River that goes to Savanah. Sherman ended his march to the sea here, however he did not take the fort, but watched from across the river.

Henry Ford bought 85,000 acres that included the fort in the 30s. He paid to rebuild and Champion paper bought it from Ford's estate and gave the fort land to Georgia.
